Affordable Delhi Manali Tour Package 3 Days

There’s a specific kind of feeling you get when you’re leaving Delhi at two in the morning — the city finally quiet, the highway wide open, and the faint promise of mountains somewhere ahead in the dark. You don’t know exactly when the plains end and the hills begin. You just keep driving. And then, somewhere around Chandigarh, the road starts to curve.

That’s when it hits you. You’re actually doing this.

A Delhi to Manali road trip in just three days sounds ambitious on paper. And honestly? It is. But if you plan it right, pack light, and go in with the right mindset — it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do in North India. We’ve done this run dozens of times with guests at Happy Miles Journey, and every single time, people step off the cab in Manali looking like they’ve been rebooted.

Why 3 Days Works (And When It Doesn’t)

Let’s be straight with you. Three days is a tight itinerary. You’re not stopping at every dhaba, you’re not taking a detour to every village, and you’re definitely not spending two hours photographing every bend in the Beas river — even though you’ll want to.

But three days works beautifully if your goal is to arrive in Manali, breathe mountain air, and have one full day to actually be there. For weekend travellers, for people who can’t take a week off, for anyone who just needs to escape Delhi before it swallows them whole — this is the trip.

It doesn’t work if you get carsick easily on winding roads, if you dislike overnight journeys, or if you’re travelling with very young children who need frequent stops. In those cases, we’d suggest a 4–5 day itinerary instead.

The Route: What You’re Actually Driving Through

Delhi → Chandigarh → Bilaspur → Sundernagar → Mandi → Kullu → Bhuntar → Manali

The route takes you through three very different landscapes. The first stretch — Delhi to Chandigarh — is flat, fast, and forgettable. Use it to sleep. The second stretch — Chandigarh to Mandi — is where the hills begin and the air starts to change. By the time you hit Mandi, you’re watching the Beas river run alongside you. The last leg — Mandi to Manali — is the one people remember. Kullu, the valley, the orchards, the pine forests. It’s like the mountains saved the best for last.

Day-by-Day Breakdown

Day 1 — Delhi Departure (Night Drive)

Most Delhi to Manali packages, including ours at Happy Miles Journey, start with a late-night departure — typically between 9 PM and midnight. Night driving through UP and Haryana is genuinely faster. There’s no truck congestion, no highway toll queues, and no midday heat baking the cab. You cross Chandigarh before sunrise, and by the time the mountains start, you’re awake and watching.

What to do on Day 1:

  • Pick-up from your Delhi location (hotel, railway station, or central meeting point)
  • Settle in, hydrate, and grab snacks for the road
  • Sleep through the plains — seriously, rest now
  • Wake up somewhere near Bilaspur as the hills begin

Day 2 — Arriving in Manali, Slow Morning

Depending on road conditions, you’ll arrive in Manali between 8 AM and noon. After checking in and a proper breakfast — if you haven’t eaten Siddu yet, start here, it’s a Himachali steamed bread stuffed with poppy seeds and walnuts — you have a half day to explore at your own pace.

Afternoon in Manali:

The Mall Road gets a bad reputation from people who expected wilderness and found cafes. But it’s actually pleasant if you’re not trying to rush it. From there, the Hadimba Devi Temple is about a 10-minute walk into the cedar forest — one of those places that feels genuinely sacred regardless of your beliefs.

Vashisht village is worth the short drive. The hot sulphur springs there are the kind of thing you think you’ll skip and then you don’t. The water is genuinely hot, and soaking your road-tired legs in them after 14 hours of travel is one of life’s simpler joys.

Day 3 — Solang Valley or Rohtang Pass

This is the day you’ll take the most photographs. If Rohtang Pass is open (typically June to October), we can take you up to 3,978 metres above sea level — snow in summer. The pass is controlled by permits, which we handle as part of the package.

If Rohtang is closed, Solang Valley is the alternative — and many guests end up preferring it. It’s less chaotic, the views are arguably better for photography, and the infrastructure for outdoor activities is excellent. Paragliding, zorbing, short hikes.

Best Time to Go

May to June: Roads are open, weather is cool, but expect some crowds around weekends. Rohtang may have snow patches.

July to August: Monsoon season. The valley is stunning but landslide risk on the highway is real. Rohtang is typically closed.

September to early October: The sweet spot. Post-monsoon clarity, fewer tourists, and Rohtang usually accessible. Most repeat visitors choose this window.

November onwards: Snow starts closing the high passes. The road trip requires a 4x4 and experience with mountain winter driving.

A Few Things Nobody Tells You

  • The highway between Mandi and Kullu has stretches under perpetual construction. Budget an extra hour mentally.
  • Altitude matters even at Manali. Drink water, skip alcohol on arrival day, rest. Most people feel fine.
  • The Beas river sounds different at night. Keep your window cracked if you’re staying riverside.
  • Pack layers, not just a jacket. The difference between mid-afternoon Manali and a morning at Rohtang is extreme.

Book Your Trip

We run this package year-round, and we keep the groups small — it’s the only way to do it properly. Get in touch through the website and we’ll put together a quote within a few hours, including vehicle options and accommodation based on your dates and preferences.

The mountains aren’t going anywhere. But the right season to go is always shorter than you think.
